Georg Georgiev: Bulgaria is strongly committed to the protection of children’s rights

“Being a country at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Bulgaria has managed to develop a strong tradition of tolerance and mutual understanding between people of different cultural origin. Our country is strongly committed to the overall fulfillment of its priorities in the field of human rights and protection of the rights of the child. In this context, we aspire towards higher standards both at national and international level,” Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said at the opening of the Informal Meeting within the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Seminar on Human Rights having as its theme “Human Rights and Children”.
Georg Georgiev added that the additional attention to the topics of early child development and the equal access to education and culture will be given during the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council.
Within his statement, the Deputy Foreign Minister said that the Asia-Europe meeting offers many prospects for the strengthening of cooperation between the ASEM partners in the political, economic and social sphere which is of exceptional importance for their common stability. Bulgaria attaches high importance to the informal dialogue and the exchange of information between the countries of the two continents, Georgiev added.
He underscored that the enhancement of Bulgaria’s visibility and involvement with ASEM is among the priorities of its multilateral diplomacy. In accordance with the country’s strong commitment to the process, Bulgaria has joined some of the most important spheres of cooperation such as the promotion and protection of human rights. This is one of the current topics on the agenda of the political dialogue between Europe and Asia.
