Deputy Minister Georg Georgiev meets with Israeli Ambassador Irit Lilian

Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev had a meeting with the Ambassador of the State of Israel here Irit Lilian.

The two made a review of bilateral relations in all spheres of mutual interest. “There is a very strong bond of friendship between Bulgaria and Israel and we should work very actively to preserve it,” Georg Georgiev said. He thanked Ambassador Lilian for her efforts for the promotion of bilateral ties.

In connection with the anti-Semitic slogans that have appeared on monuments in the country, the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that the Bulgarian society has proven that it has always opposed and will continue to counter any manifestations of hatred.

“For me, the main task as a national coordinator in the fight against anti-Semitism is to establish legislation which would be our instrument of reaction in such cases. Reactions of this kind are not innate to the Bulgarian people. I can assure you that the Bulgarian competent authorities will continue to sanction all possible future manifestations of anti-Semitism on the part of separate individuals of our society with the full necessary strictness,” Georg Georgiev added.

Ambassador Irit Lilian expressed gratitude for the quick and adequate reaction of the Bulgarian authorities and for the actions undertake to remove anti-Semite messages. She stressed the role of the Bulgarian society for the salvation of the Bulgarian Jews is indisputable and that our country should be proud of this act.
