Georg Georgiev: ‘For Bulgaria, Canada is a natural ally and partner’

07 November 2017 News

“For Bulgaria, Canada is an example of an exceptionally developed industrial country with high living standards, a natural ally and partner, with which we share common values and similar positions on a number of key global and regional issues. Arm-in-arm, the two countries make efforts together to find the right solutions of issues of the international agenda with the purpose of strengthening peace and withstanding democracy, the rule of law and humanity against the backdrop of increasingly unpredictable regional and global challenges in the sphere of security.

The organising of the present forum in the eve of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council is a strong signal both for the mutual aspiration for the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the field of economy and trade and for the significance attached to the dialogue within the EU-Canada strategic partnership.”  Deputy Minister Georg Georgiev said this at the first ever Bulgarian-Canadian Business Forma entitled “Why Canada?”.

In his statement Georg Georgiev stressed that the relations between the EU and Canada entered into a new era with the signing of the ComprehensiveEconomic and Trade Agreement(CETA) and the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA). “These agreements create a new, more favourable political, legal and economic framework for the promotion of cooperation between Brussels and Ottawa while unveiling many new opportunities for the separate member states. Our country may and should avail fully itself of them given that while holding the rotating presidency of the EU Council it will work for their effective implementation,” the Deputy Minister added.

He stressed that such forums provide the necessary platform to clarify the mechanisms for the utilisation of this hitherto untapped potential of bilateral partnership, dispel the fears of uncertainty and the risks and to issue messages involving that it is the dialogue and cooperation and not protectionism that should serve as means for addressing the challenges of progress.

The business forum is organised with the assistance of the Canadian Embassy in Bucharest which is also accredited for Bulgaria, the Canadian-Bulgarian Business Network, the National Business Network and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The main goal of this event is to reveal before the Bulgarian entrepreneurs the possibilities for the sale of their produce on the Canadian market and the positive aspects of the signing of the trade agreement between the EU and Canada and to present the biggest Canadian investments in the country.
