Europe must be united in overcoming the crisis

02 February 2012 News

European countries must work actively and in partnership to deal with the crisis, Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov said at a meeting with EU ambassadors accredited in Sofia where he presented Bulgaria’s priorities during the Danish EU Presidency.

Among topics that are key for Bulgaria, he singled out the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020, reform of the CAP and Cohesion Policy after 2013, as well as accession to the Schengen area.

Minister Mladenov said that for Bulgaria, it was crucial that the process of integration of Western Balkan countries continued, to guarantee the implementation of necessary economic and political reforms and to create stability in the region.

The great success of Croatia is a motivating factor in the process of EU enlargement, and we are ready to share our experience and to render support to our neighbors in the region, he said.

Bulgaria is, and will continue to be, active in its policy of support for the process of democratic transition in Arab countries, Minister Mladenov told the meeting.

He cited as examples the international conferences held in Bulgaria in 2011, in the Sofia Platform series, a forum for sharing the experiences of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in building a democratic society and institutions.

Bulgaria is preparing further initiatives in connection with reforms in the sectors of security and the training of young political leaders from the countries of the Arab Spring, Nickolay Mladenov said.
