NATO Allies agree the New START Treaty contributes to international stability by constraining Russian and U.S. strategic nuclear forces. Therefore, we note with concern that Russia has failed to comply with legally-binding obligations under the New START Treaty.

The ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in Bulgaria will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be handed a protest note with regard to a serious criminal act, committed against a citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia with a Bulgarian self-identification, who is also a secretary of the “Tsar Boris III” organization in the city of Ohrid. On January 19th, 2023, the aforementioned citizen was attacked, causing grievous bodily harm, and, as a result, is admitted to a hospital.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a working visit to Norway in connection with the implementation of the project "Completion and equipment of the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria", sponsored by the Fund for Bilateral Relations within the framework of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism ( 2014 – 2021). The project initially started back in December 2021.

Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria expresses its strong concern regarding the adoption on November 2nd by the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia of amendments to the Law on foundations and associations and the Law on political parties. There are serious concerns that this legislation aims to curtail the right of association of Bulgarians in North Macedonia in a discriminatory manner, one based on a unilateral misinterpretation of historical facts.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostadin Kodjabashev took part in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the 40th anniversary of the Committee on the Convention at the Palace of Nations in Geneva. The participation of the Bulgarian Deputy Minister was an expression of the priority importance of the rights of women and girls for Bulgarian foreign policy.
