Minister Daniel Mitov conferred today with his Macedonian counterpart Nikola Poposki at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers, which is held in Antalya, Turkey.

Nikola Poposki informed the Bulgarian Foreign Minister on the current situation in the Republic of Macedonia. For his part, Minister Daniel Mitov once again emphasized that it is necessary to clarify the circumstances that have led to the events in Kumanovo.

With regard to the political crisis in the Republic of Macedonia, the Bulgarian top diplomat underscored the need to resume the dialogue between the government and the opposition. There is an urgent need to restore confidence in the institutions and the rule of law, which is a sole responsibility of the country’s government. Of key importance is the preservation of the civil and ethnic peace, he added.

Minister Mitov said that the aspiration of the Republic of Macedonia to join the EU requires decisive reforms which cannot be further postponed. Minister Poposki emphasized that for his country there is no other alternative but the implementation of reforms.
