Position of the Security Council with the Council of Ministers

12 May 2015 News

An extraordinary meeting of the Security Council with the Council of Ministers was held today in Sofia. The participants agreed on the following:

The preservation of the territorial integrity and the political stability of the Republic of Macedonia are of utmost importance for Bulgaria.

Of key importance is also safeguarding the country’s civil and ethnic peace.

It is necessary to restore the dialogue between government and opposition, because its absence creates conditions for destabilization.

The current internal political crisis requires responsible actions by the government in order to restore the public confidence in the work of the institutions. There is an urgent need to restore the rule of law, which is a sole responsibility of the country’s government.

The Republic of Macedonia seeks to join the EU, which goes through tough reforms. They are urgent and only they can ensure the construction of a state governed by the rule of law. The lack of reforms delays the start of the negotiation process for the accession of the Republic of Macedonia to the European Union.

Bulgaria cannot interfere in the internal affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, but is ready to provide assistance, both bilaterally and within the efforts of the European Union.
