Bulgaria offers practical assistance for the democratization of Tunisia

"The common between the Bulgarian and the Tunisian people is their desire to be free. Twenty years ago it opened the way to the change in Bulgaria, and now the same desire led to a peaceful revolution in Tunisia in February. We are happy that our relations today are based on common values." This was the main message of the Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov to the Prime Minister of Tunisia Beji Caid-Essebsi and to the Foreign Minister Mohamed Mouldi Kefi. Mladenov underlined, that Bulgaria offers practical help in these first months of the transition in Tunisia.
The delegation of the Foreign Minister includes members of the Central election commission (CEC) and election experts who will present their experience to representatives of the political parties and the civil society in Tunisia within a short seminar. The Minister also presented the Bulgarian School of Politics, which trains young leaders from all political forces and is ready to work on a similar project with Tunisian partners. Moreover this fall are incoming two events, continuation of the Sofia platform - on the inheritance of the totalitarian past and on the reforms in the security sector, announced Mladenov.
His Tunisian hosts thanked him for the Bulgarian initiatives, including the repatriation of Sudanese and Egyptians, from the border with Libya. They urged the EU, to do more in order to support democracy and stability in the country and in the region.
