Creation of a European Energy Union is a priority for Bulgaria and Slovakia

Development of a common EU energy policy is a priority for the Member States, including Bulgaria and Slovakia. There is a favorable climate and political will in Europe to develop common energy projects and we should be consistent and united in our goal to achieve broader energy independence, agreed at today’s meeting Minister Daniel Mitov and Marian Yakubotsi, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Sofia.
The two diplomats discussed also the relations between Bulgaria and the Visegrad Group countries. Minister Mitov recognized the importance of the active cooperation in this format, as well as the need to continue discussions on topics related to the deepening of the integration of the Visegrad countries and the creation of a homogeneous economic environment in the region. For his part, Ambassador Yakubotsi pointed out that the main objective of the current Slovak Presidency of the Visegrad Group in the "V4 +" format is developing a shared vision of the countries on all topics of mutual interest.
In the context of the forthcoming Slovak EU Presidency in the second half of 2016, Minister Mitov reaffirmed Bulgaria's wish for sharing the Slovakian experience in the preparation and during the Presidency through the participation of a Bulgarian diplomat in the process. Ambassador Yakubotsi welcomed the idea, emphasizing that such an initiative would be useful for both sides.
Among the other topics of conversation were the prospects for developing joint projects in the field of infrastructure and cultural tourism within the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the European integration of the Western Balkans, as well as issues on the international agenda. Minister Mitov expressed his gratitude for Slovakia’s support to the Bulgarian minority in the country. Bulgarians are highly valued and an integral part of the Slovak society, said on his part Ambassador Yakubotsi.
