The EU security requires unity and solidarity of the Member States

24 November 2014 News

Bulgaria and Estonia face common challenges and it is exceedingly important for the European Union to keep its unity and solidarity on issues related to its security, agreed at today’s meeting Minister Daniel Mitov and Toomas Kukk, Estonian Ambassador to Bulgaria based in Vilnius.

Achieving energy diversification is a key aspect of security, the Foreign Minister said. In this regard, the construction of an interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece is crucial for both our country and the EU as a whole, he added.

Among the other topics discussed at the meeting were the preparations for Bulgaria's rotating EU presidency in 2018, sharing expertise in developing e-government and e-governance, and the setting up of a European Energy Union.

Intensifying the bilateral relations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries is crucial for the coordinated preparation of the forthcoming 2018 Presidency of the EU Council, said Minister Mitov and Ambassador Kukk. They welcomed the UK-Estonia-Bulgaria trilateral consultations held in November in London, adding that they are a "well-functioning working mechanism".

Bulgaria is showing sustained interest in Estonia's experience in building a modern administration and e-governance, the Foreign Minister told  Ambassador Kukk. They shared the view that the intensified cooperation on the subject that started in 2011-2012 should continue.
