The Black Sea region is important for NATO’s security

Minister Daniel Mitov participated in an informal working dinner at the level of Foreign Ministers, held on the first day of the NATO Summit in Wales. The meeting was chaired by the NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow.

The discussion focused on the response of NATO together with its partners to current security challenges arising from both the east and the south. The ministers discussed also the situation in Ukraine, Libya, Syria and Iraq.

Minister Mitov pointed out the importance of the Black Sea region as a bridge between the crises in Ukraine and Iraq. He emphasized the importance of this eastern part of the Alliance for the security of the Allies.

Ministers reaffirmed the need for unity and joint efforts to ensure the security of the region and the Euro-Atlantic community. They emphasized the importance of deepening the trans-Atlantic relations. The top diplomats discussed also NATO’s  future development given the uncertain environment.

The participation of Minister Mitov in the Wales Summit continues today with a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of Foreign Ministers and the leaders of the Euro-Atlantic international organizations - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, the OSCE and the Council of Europe.
