Bulgaria and Japan should continue developing their traditionally good relations

20 August 2014 News

The relations between Bulgaria and Japan are of a great importance to us. Our two countries share traditionally good relations that have evolved considerably in recent years and I hope this trend to continue, said Minister Daniel Mitov at today’s meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Takashi Koizumi.

Ambassador Koizumi pointed out that the high-level visits in recent years are an affirmation of the excellent bilateral political dialogue. This year we mark the 55th anniversary of the re-establishment of the diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Japan, which will be celebrated with special ceremony, he added.

Minister Mitov and the Japanese Ambassador also discussed cooperation in the field of economy and energy. Foreign Minister reiterated the Caretaker Government’s commitment to take the necessary steps in order to improve the investment climate in the country.

Among the other topics of conversation were the negotiations over signing a Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and Japan, the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly in the fall and other issues on the international agenda, focusing on the situation in Ukraine.
