We welcome the agreement reached between Israel and Hamas for 72-hour cessation of hostilities and urge all parties to strictly abide by it.
We strongly believe that the many civilian casualties and the serious humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip are an unacceptable consequence of the ongoing conflict and we appeal the parties involved to immediately start negotiations on its permanent termination.
We express our hope that the State of Israel and the Palestinians will return to the process of bilateral diplomatic negotiations, as we believe that this is the only path that will lead to a final agreement based on the principle of two states coexisting in peace and security.
