30 June 2014 News

Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Belgium were held today at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). During the plenary talks, the Permanent Secretary of the MFA, Georgi Dimitrov, and the Secretary General of Belgium's Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Dirk Achten, reviewed the state of bilateral relations. They underlined the very good political dialogue between the two countries, the level of economic cooperation, as well as Belgium’s gratitude for the excellent bilateral police cooperation.

They also discussed the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU in 2018 and the opportunity for exchanging experience with Belgium, as well as the situation in the Union after the European Parliament elections.

The pace of reforms in the diplomatic services of both countries was also discussed in the context of the changing global conditions and the existing financial restrictions. Future cooperation between the Diplomatic Institute of the MFA and the corresponding Belgian institutions was also a subject of discussion.

Both sides shared common views on current international issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the role of Russia, as well as the progress on the path of reforms in the Western Balkans.

The consultations were held in a frank and dialogical spirit which resulted in an agreement for a continuous ministerial cooperation on various levels.
