The Republic of Cyprus is one of the important partners of Bulgaria

16 June 2014 News

The Republic of Cyprus is one of the important partners of Bulgaria both bilaterally and within the European Union, said Minister Kristian Vigenin at the meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades during his official visit to the country.

During the talks with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides, Minister Vigenin emphasized that the excellent political dialogue between the two countries is enriched by a number of practical activities and initiatives.

Among the issues discussed were the situation in the EU after the elections on 25 May 2014, the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU, the cooperation in Southeast Europe, developments in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean, the Cyprus issue and others. They shared views on a number of key issues of the European and global agenda. The prospects for developing the relations in the energy sector given the need for diversification of supply at the European level were also among the topics discussed.

During his visit, Minister Vigenin also met with the President of the Cyprus Parliament, Yannakis Omiru, and Archbishop Chrysostomos II. All agreed that the active Bulgarian community in Cyprus and the Cypriot citizens who have obtained their education in Bulgaria, are a bridge between the two countries.
