Minister Kristian Vigenin participated in the Annual Meeting of the Central European Initiative Ministers for Foreign Affairs, held on 3 June in Vienna. In his statement at the forum, Minister Vigenin reiterated Bulgaria's commitment to support the countries with European aspirations.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister focused on the energy security of the region, presenting Bulgaria’s position on the topic. He recalled that Bulgaria has experienced serious difficulties during the gas crisis in 2009 and pointed out that the security of supply,as well asthe diversification of energy sources and suppliers arekey priorities in the programof the government. " The Bulgarian energy policy is in line with the EU’s main objectives,related to the security of the energy supply," said Vigenin and emphasized that "Bulgaria is taking concrete steps together with the Visegrad countries, Greece and Romania to connect their energy systems in a new gas corridor. "

Minister Vigenin welcomed the upcoming Macedonian Presidency of the CEI and assured that Bulgaria will provide the necessary support for its successful course.

In the adopted final declaration, the Foreign Ministers welcomed the objectives of the Austrian Presidency under the motto “CEI as a Bridge between European (Macro) Regions/Synergies with other International Organisations." During the meeting, the participants shared the view that the political dialogue and cooperation should be aimed at supporting the CEI countries that are not EU members and further developing their partnership with the Union. In this regard, Ministers expressed their clear support for the continuation of the EU enlargement process towards the Western Balkans.
