Bulgaria expresses solidarity with the flood-hit Serbia

In connection with the ongoing critical situation in Serbia, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Georgi Dimitrov held a meeting with H.E. Vladimir Curgus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to Sofia. The meeting was the first in a series of meetings of  Ambassador Curgus with Bulgarian officials in connection with the assistance provided by Bulgaria to the distressed areas in Serbia.

The Serbian Ambassador expressed gratitude on behalf of the Serbian people and government for the timely help and solidarity of the government of the Republic of Bulgaria in this difficult timefor Serbia.Ambassador Curgus said that "Bulgaria was among the first countries to provide assistance" and expressed gratitude for the professionalism of the Bulgarian rescuers who are currently involved in the severely affected areas in Serbia. Ambassador Curgus informed that the weather situation in Serbia remains complicated and called on the Bulgarian government to provide humanitarian aid in the form of medication, cots, blankets, bedding, pillows, clothes, jackets and rubber boots.

The Permanent Secretary delivered to Ambassador Curgus a letter of condolences on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin and addressed to the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, in connection with the natural disaster that killed more than 20 people.Georgi Dimitrov emphasized that in this difficult moment for Serbia the Bulgarian state is supportive and empathetic to the difficulties and pain of the Serbian people and expressed hope for a fast normalization of the weather situation in the country. Ambassador Curgus received affirmation that the Bulgarian government is ready to provide humanitarian aid to Serbia and will review the options for its delivery in the next few days. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also launch a campaign in order to collect essential products for the distressed areas in Serbia, the Permanent Secretary said. Part of the donations will be provided to nationals of Bosnia and Herzegovina after determining their needs.
