Мinister Vigenin and foreign diplomats marked the Earth Day

22 April 2014 News

Ministry of Foreign Affairs marked today's Earth Day with a "green" initiative. Minister Kristian Vigenin, ambassadors and officials from more than 30 diplomatic missions accredited to the country, planted trees in the park "Peace and Friendship" in the "Studentski" area in Sofia.

"With today's initiative we give a good example that we should protect the nature because any diplomatic efforts and negotiations are unable to protect us from the climate change," said Minister Vigenin. He greeted the guests with today's celebration and called for more joint efforts to protect the environment.

Bulgaria is one of the first countries to join the international celebration of Earth Day, which began in 1990. Today's event is part of a series of MFA initiatives dedicated to the Earth Day.The Foreign Ministry will also participate in the "Let's clean Bulgaria in One Day" campaign on 26 April.
