Ukrainian Deputy Anton Kisse thanked Minister Vigenin for his visit to Ukraine

"Signing of the political part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is a sign that the Union continues to support the Ukrainian state and is ready to strengthen the cooperation," said Minister Kristian Vigenin during today’s meeting in Sofia with the Ukrainian deputy and Chairman of the Association of Bulgarians in Ukraine Anton Kisse. Minister Vigenin emphasized that initiating a direct dialogue between Russia and Ukraine is an important step towards resolving the crisis.

Anton Kisse thanked on behalf of the Bulgarians in Ukraine for the support of Bulgaria and the opportunity to keep constant contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in such hard times. According to him, the visit of Minister Vigenin to Ukraine was important, timely and showed empathy and solidarity with the Bulgarian community in Ukraine.

During the conversation, they discussed ways of improving the situation of Bulgarians in Ukraine and ensuring their rights, including with regard to the the status of the Bulgarian language at regional level. The Foreign Minister assured the Chairman of the Association of Bulgarians in Ukraine that the Bulgarian authorities closely monitor the situation and are ready to respond in case the rights of the Bulgarian minority in Ukraine are jeopardized.

They discussed also a wide range of issues related to the political and economic situation in Ukraine, the relations with the European Union and Russia, and the impact of the crisis on the regional processes. Minister Vigenin informed Anton Kisse on the Bulgarian position, expressed at yesterday’s European Council by the Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.
