04 March 2014 News

We support the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine and we expect the new government along with the international community to create the necessary conditions for the de-escalation of tensions and lasting stabilization of the country. In the 21st century the problems can not be solved by military action, said Minister Kristian Vigenin during his today’s meeting in Kiev with the acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov.

"It is important that the Government of Ukraine takes steps to involve all citizens regardless of their ethnicity, so that each one of them feels valuable for the political and economic stabilization of the country and put an end to the conflicts and the contradictions, "  pointed out the Bulgarian Foreign Minister, expressing satisfaction at the refusal of Mr. Turchynov to sign the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to cancel the law “On State Language Policy”. According to Vigenin this is a very important sign to the Bulgarians in Ukraine because "the signals that were sent by the Bulgarian side and the other member states were heard".

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister, who is on a two-day working visit to Ukraine, met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrey Deschitsa. During the talks, they focused on the coordination of the international efforts to resolve the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the rights of the Bulgarian minority in the country.

Vigenin invited his counterpart to participate in the Council of Foreign Ministers of the BSEC member states, which will be held onJune 2014in Varna. Among the topics of discussion was also the issue of sending an OSCE observer mission to Ukraine in order to monitor the situation.
