Minister Kristian Vigenin participated in the extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council on Ukraine

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin participated today in the extraordinary meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on the situation in Ukraine. The Foreign Ministers identified the actions of Russia as a clear violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity by acts of aggression. "We decided if there are no quick actions to tackle the tensions in Ukraine, at the extraordinary meeting of EU Heads of State or Government on Thursday, 6 March, to decide on sanctions - suspension of the visa dialogue with Russia, of the negotiations on a new EU agreement with Russia and others," said Kristian Vigenin. At the suggestion of the Bulgarian Minister, in the conclusions of today’s Council the guaranteeing of full protection of the minorities in accordance with the Ukraine 's international commitments was included.

Minister Vigenin announced to the media that tomorrow he will visit Ukraine. In Kiev he will meet with the acting President Oleksandr Turchynov, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Foreign Minister Andrey Deschitsa and the leader of the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform Vitali Klitschko. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister will meet with representatives of the Bulgarian minority in the capital and Odessa. "The attitude towards the Bulgarians in Ukraine is crucial for Bulgaria's relations with the new authorities in the country and this visit is a clear sign of our position, " emphasized Vigenin.
