Kristian Vigenin held talks with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan

Minister Kristian Vigenin met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov who is visiting Sofia on the occasion ofthe first political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.

Azerbaijan is an important and friendly country for us and I hope that the active bilateral dialogue we conduct in recent years will  be developed and there will be concrete economic results, said Kristian Vigenin. Although the focus of our relations is traditionally on natural resources, the relations between the two countries are much more comprehensive, he said. The Foreign Minister identified  economy, politics and culture as areas of cooperation.  

For his part, Deputy Minister Khalafov pointed out agriculture, infrastructure , tourism and education as areas of mutual interest . He expressed the political will of Azerbaijan to establish close cooperation with Bulgaria in the field of energy.

According to Minister Vigenin, our country is interested in developing active cooperation at both bilateral level and under the framework of the EU-Azerbaijan cooperation. He emphasized that the Eastern Partnership  is important for Bulgaria because it provides additional opportunities for the development of the relations between the EU and the partner countries, as well as between individual Member States and participants in the initiative.

Among the topics of conversation were also issues related to regional cooperation in the context of the Bulgarian rotating Chairmanship-in-Office of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.Our goal is to try to set the tone for the implementation of specific projects, though not very large, as well as to strengthen the synergy between the BSEC and the EU, which would contribute to the provision of their funding, said Minister Kristian Vigenin.
