Kristian Vigenin met with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Macedonia

Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin met today with his Macedonian counterpart Nikola Poposki, who is on a working visit to Sofia . The two ministers agreed that the dialogue between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia should continue in the most open manner which will contribute to  overcoming the existing differences on specific issues. We must try to send positive messages to the public in both countries in order to stimulate contacts between people, theysaid. During  their conversation,  Kristian Vigenin and Nikola Poposki discussed proposals and ideas to boost the negotiation process between the expert groups on  the preparation of the agreement on good neighbor relations and cooperation.

The general desire of both sides to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperationwas reaffirmed. The Foreign Ministers identified  as a priority in the bilateral relations  the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, including the construction of the railway lines and roads for Corridor № 8. They shared the understanding that this would have a positive impact on the economy and tourism in both countries.

After the talks between the two delegations, Nikola Poposki delivered a public lecture at the Foreign Ministry on " Before and after the EU accession: lessons learned and best practices for the candidate countries." The Macedonian Foreign Minister emphasized that the candidate countries from the region which are at different stage in their relations with the EU, appreciate and accept the experience of those who are already members of the Union. That should be the motto of the entire region, this is also the message that today I want to share with you, said the Macedonian Foreign Minister .

During his visit, the Macedonian Foreign Minister also met with the leadership of the Friendship group BulgariaRepublic of Macedonia at the National Assembly.
