More than 400 pupils, students and citizens saw the Foreign Ministry on the second "Open Door Day" of the institution. During the two days of the initiative,  held on 13 and 14 December, the MFA was visited by almost 900 people. Today, the Ministry opened its doors, marking two important anniversaries for our country - Bulgaria's accession to the United Nations on December 14, 1955 and the adoption of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights of December 10, 1948.

"The country's accession to full membership in the United Nations family on December 14, 1955 is a milestone event in the most recent history of our country. United Nations has a fundamental role in the promotion of the international system, based on enhanced multilateral cooperation, universal and eternal values, promotion of the culture of peace and harmony in the world,"  Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin said, addressing the numerous guests. He pointed out that from the moment of its accession to the United Nations, Bulgaria makes a positive contribution to the organization's efforts to put into practice the principles enshrined in its Charter and the eternal principles and aspirations of mankind - international peace, security and justice. "Their achievement today is still one of the main global challenges. I believe that together we can manage to build a better, more dignified and more tolerant world," said Minister Vigenin.

On the International Human Rights Day - 10 December, this year we mark the 65th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. "In the history of mankind, perhaps there is no other similar document to have a more significant impact on the lives of people around the world and to greater extent to provide universal and effective recognition and observance of human rights," addressed the occasion the Bulgarian Foreign Minister.

We are all attached to the cause of Bulgaria and the United Nations, said on his part Ambassador Ivan Garvalov, President of the UN Association of Bulgaria. He pointed out the good cooperation in this field between the UN Association and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the "UN and development cooperation" Directorate and the "Human Rights" Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kristian Vigenin expressed gratitude to Ambassador Garvalov and the organization that he  represents for their commitment to the mission of the United Nations and for their active participation in the dissemination of the ideas, principles and objectives of the organization amidst the Bulgarian society. We are proud that this year for seventh consecutive time our country has sent youth delegates to the meetings of the Third Committee of the UN, which provides an opportunity for the young people to stand their ground in front of the global community with their knowledge, motivation and purposefulness, added the Foreign Minister.

Opening its doors to all citizens, the Foreign Ministry opens a window to the world, said Petar Mladenov, one of the current youth delegates of Bulgaria to the Third Committee of the UN. According to him, young people should be the main ambassadors of peace and human rights protection. "To be tolerant, to respect and honor every human being," called the Bulgarian youth delegate to the UN.

On the second "Open Door Day" 50 young people took part in the interactive simulation game “Lightning  race,” organized by the UN Association of Bulgaria. They competed to demonstrate their knowledge in the field of international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy. The youngest guests of the MFA made wonderful Christmas cards in the special "Art Workshop" for their peers at the centers for temporary accommodation of refugees in Bulgaria.

During the two "Open Door Days" over 5000 information materials were distributed related to the structure and the various activities of the Foreign Ministry, the opportunities for a career in the diplomatic office, as well as materials with information about the EU institutions and policies, provided by the partners of the initiative - the European Commission Representation and the Information Office of the European Parliament in Bulgaria.
