11 December 2013 News

"We are grateful to Slovakia for being the first to respond to Bulgaria’s call for help with regard to the increasing flow of refugees from Syria. Our two countries have always had good cooperation and close partnership relations." This was said by Minister Kristian Vigenin at the meeting today with Marian Yakubotsi, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Sofia.

Slovakia is an important and promising partner of Bulgaria in Europe, said Kristian Vigenin. He noted that as Foreign Minister he will work towards promoting cooperation between the two countries in all areas of mutual interest.

The two discussed issues of bilateral relations and agreed on the need to strengthen the trade and economic relations and cooperation on topics on the European agenda. The Foreign Minister and Ambassador Yakubotsi pointed out that Bulgaria and Slovakia share similar positions regarding the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the Eastern Partnership initiative, the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. Minister Vigenin added that Bulgaria is interested in establishing closer cooperation with the countries of the Visegrad group, as well as within the "Visegrad plus"  format.
