Two streets in the capital were officially named "La Francophonie Street" and "Léopold Sédar Senghor" on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sofia Municipality. The event was on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the accession of Bulgaria with the status of full member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

"The Francophonie has an undeniable contribution to the promotion of dialogue and the development of those values ​​which today provide the opportunity to communicate in an area without internal borders. It is not by chance that Bulgaria's membership in this family of multiculturalism adds to our democratic growth as a society." This was said in the congratulatory address of Prime Minister Oresharski, read by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Georgi Dimitrov. The Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality, Todor Chobanov, emphasized that as a candidate for "European Capital of Culture" the capital is proud of the Sofia located and actively working French institutions. A welcoming speech was delivered by Pierre de Cocatrix- Head of the Office of the Secretary-General of the OIF Abdou Diouf, who praised the role of Bulgaria in the development of the francophone solidarity.

The ceremony, held in front of the Francophone Institute of Administration and Management, where the two streets with new names are located, was attended by three ambassadors. Among the guests were also the heads of diplomatic missions of Belgium, Morocco and Lebanon - Anick Van Calster, Latifa Akharbache and Fares Eid. Especially for the occasion and the celebrations, associated with the anniversary, from Bucharest arrived Neil Swain - a representative of the Embassy of Canada in the Romanian capital.
