Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin met today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Sofia, Mohammed Ali Said Al Nuaymi, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to Bulgaria, Asaad al-Samarrai.

Kristian Vigenin and Ambassador Mohammed Ali Said Al Nuaymi discussed the opportunities for strengthening the bilateral economic relations and the political dialogue at all levels given the traditionally good relations between the two countries.

“Our bilateral relations have never been as active as during the recent years. As a Minister of Foreign Affairs, I am committed to work for their preservation and further development," Kristian Vigenin said. He stressed that Bulgaria highly appreciates the role of Qatar as a factor in the political and economic processes on both regional and global scale.

"Qatar sees Bulgaria as a very important European country and my major task as Ambassador is to make the bilateral relations even stronger,” said in turn Mohammed Ali Said Al Nuaymi.

The two also discussed that Bulgaria, as an EU Member state, offers excellent conditions for the Qatari investors. They identified some areas with potential for development such as infrastructure projects, construction , real estate , exports of agricultural and livestock products , mineral springs spas, etc.

Foreign Minister also met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to Bulgaria, Asaad al-Samarrai. They discussed the increasingly active political and economic relations between the two countries, proof of which is the forthcoming visit of the Iraqi Foreign Minister in Sofia in October.

"Bulgaria considers Iraq as an important and valuable economic partner in the Middle East. Our two countries have enduring relations based on friendship and mutual cooperation, "Minister Vigenin said. Ambassador Asaad al-Samarraiexpressed the Iraqi commitment to intensify the relations between the two countries, which would benefit both Bulgarian and Iraqi business.

The two exchanged views on the situation in Syria. Foreign Minister welcomed the US - Russia agreement on placing Syria’s chemical weapons under international control. "This is an important first step showing that when the main global players reach an agreement, peaceful solutions can be achieved,” he said.
