Bulgaria re-elected as a member of the World Tourism Organization’s Executive Council for the period 2013-2017

At the current 20th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in Zambia and Zimbabwe (August 24 to 29 2013), elections for the Executive Board of the organization were held. As a result of our successful campaign and amid significant competition in the group of European countries, Bulgaria yesterday was re-elected to the Board, together with Germany, Azerbaijan, Serbia and Croatia. The Executive Board is the managing body of the organization and Bulgaria has been a member three times. Our latest term expires this year.
Bulgaria has been a member of the United Nations’ World Tourism Organization since 1976 The election of Bulgaria to the WTO Executive Council is a prestigious recognition of the best achievements of our country in this area, as well as of Bulgaria’s active participation in the activities and initiatives undertaken by the WTO. Bulgaria's membership of the Executive Board will allow greater participation in the processes related to the development of tourism in the world, will better position our country as a tourist destination and will help the tourism industry.
