The Danube Strategy will assume increasing importance at regional and European level

In comingyears, the implementation of the Danube Strategy will become increasingly important both regionally and in the European context. This will provide better prospects for the development of the district of Rousse and the Bulgarian state,Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenintold a news conference in the Danubian city. Minister Vigenin briefed reporters onthe outcome of his talksduring yesterday's visit to Bucharest. He expressed his hope that a number of joint projects would be implemented soon.

In Rousse, the Foreign Minister’s programmebegan with meetings with the Border Police and the local structure of the Customs Agency. Later, KristianVigenin held working meetings with District GovernorVentsislav Kaltchev and his deputies,Milena Hinkova and Aylyan Karamehmedova. The talks also were attended by MPs from the 19th electoral district, Dobrin Danev and Ekaterina Zayakova.

Minister Vigenin also met with the Deputy Mayor for Spatial Development, Dimitar Nakov. Among the topics discussedwas the need for the relocation of the Technical Secretariat ofthe Operational Programme “Cross-Border Co-operation Romania - Bulgaria 2007-2013” from Călăraşi  to Rousse and accelerating the procedure for opening a Center for Risk Management and Planning in the city. The expectations of Bulgarian business also include the building as soon as possible of a Rousse-Svilengrad speedway, a revampof the Rousse-Varna railway line and the construction of an intermodal terminal.

The Foreign Minister expressedsupport for resolving these issuesand expressed readiness for them to be discussed at the planned autumn joint meeting of the governments of Romania and Bulgaria. He added that the Center for Risk Management and Planning in Rousse is a trilateral project and that two of the parties to ithave signed a memorandum on establishing it. These are Bulgaria and the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It remains for Romania to sign the memorandum, and the center, which is one of the elements ofan integrated plan for the urban regeneration and development projects in Rousse, will become reality.
