"At a time when Europe is facing conflicts, a complicated security environment and economic challenges, it is important to work together to achieve our common policies and goals", Minister Petrova said.
During the visit, the two ministers opened an exhibition organized by the Lajos Kossuth House Museum in Shumen. It represents an important period in the history of bilateral relations - the arrival in Bulgaria of several thousand Hungarian exiles after the suppression of the revolution of 1848.
"Culture and history are those parts of the common past that most permanently connect nations. Such is the relationship between Bulgaria and Hungary", Minister Velislava Petrova said in her speech.
Minister Orban stressed that in the context of modern challenges, the historical ties and the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Hungary are a solid basis for the two countries to work together in support of peace, cooperation and security in Europe and the world. She highlighted the friendship and mutual trust between the two peoples, preserved through the generations.
On the occasion of the holiday, Velislava Petrova and Anita Orban presented wreaths in front of the memorial plaque of St. Ivan Rilski in St. Sofia Basilica. The day of Bulgarian-Hungarian friendship is celebrated on the feast of the saint. In the 12th century, his relics were transferred to the Hungarian city of Esztergom, from where they were later returned to Bulgaria.
