Bulgaria and Indonesia Discussed New Opportunities for Deepening Bilateral Cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova met today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Muhammad Anis Mata, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as part of his working tour in Europe.
Minister Petrova stressed that Indonesia is an important partner of Bulgaria in Southeast Asia and stressed the importance of the visit for intensifying political dialogue and bilateral cooperation. The two countries agreed that bilateral ties have significant potential for development. The importance of deepening economic ties, diversifying bilateral trade and promoting investment was highlighted.
Logistics and transport connectivity, including the opportunities offered by Bulgarian seaports, were highlighted among the promising directions for intensifying the dialogue. Special attention was also paid to tourism, as well as to cooperation in the field of culture.
Later in the day, Deputy Foreign Minister Hristo Polendakov met with Muhammad Anis Mata. During the conversation, the general desire was expressed for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Indonesia to serve as an incentive for further expansion of political dialogue and cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. Prospects for the development of trade, economic and investment relations were discussed, as well as halal product certification, tourism, labour, culture and education.
A review of bilateral relations was also carried out, including in the context of the EU-Indonesia dialogue, the Strategic Partnership between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other multilateral formats.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Anis Mata presented a logo prepared by the Indonesian side on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. It combines the images of a lion – a symbol of Bulgaria, as well as the garuda bird present in the coat of arms of Indonesia.
