Deputy Minister Naydenov noted that the sizeable Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova constitutes a natural bridge and a constructive element in bilateral relations, as well as an additional motivating factor for the development of cooperation on both sides.
In this context, Deputy Minister Radi Naydenov reaffirmed the position of the Republic of Bulgaria with regard to the Taraclia District, which remains clear, consistent and unequivocal. It was emphasised that, in the course of the ongoing administrative-territorial reform, a maximally active and open dialogue should be conducted with local authorities and the public, in particular with the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with Moldovan legislation. Appreciation was expressed for the repeatedly declared readiness of the state leadership of the Republic of Moldova to preserve not only the territorial boundaries of the Taraclia District, but also its functional autonomy. The Bulgarian side highly values the conditions created by the authorities in the Republic of Moldova with a view to preserving the national, cultural and linguistic identity of the Bulgarian community in the country.
For his part, Ambassador Jacota welcomed Sofia’s constructive position and regarded the Bulgarian community as an important factor in strengthening bilateral relations. He noted that the Moldovan authorities remain committed to guaranteeing the rights of citizens of Bulgarian origin, in accordance with their legislation, and will continue the active and constructive dialogue on issues of mutual interest with the Bulgarian Government.
In conclusion, Deputy Minister Naydenov assured Ambassador Jacota that Bulgaria consistently supports the Republic of Moldova on its path towards accession to the European Union, reaffirming the country’s readiness to share valuable experience in all areas of the European integration process.
