On 5 and 6 March 2026, consultations were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between the Director General for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Mr. Yordan Parvanov, and the Director General for Western Balkans and EU Enlargement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Croatia, Mr. Stribor Kikerec.

Areas for closer cooperation between the two countries were outlined within the framework of the ongoing regular dialogue between the Bulgarian and Croatian Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The two countries discussed the situation in the Western Balkans region in the context of domestic political events in individual countries and contemporary geopolitical challenges.

They shared their views on the path of the candidate countries towards European integration. They emphasized the principle of assessment based on individual merits as the main criterion for progress in the EU accession negotiations, which guarantees the successful transformative role of the EU's enlargement policy. The two countries share a common interest in achieving the ultimate goal of European integration based on existing EU mechanisms.
