On the first day of the NATO Summit in The Hague, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georg Georgiev, took part in a working dinner of the NATO–Ukraine Council, held in the format of foreign ministers.
The meeting was also attended by Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
The main focus of the discussion was need to ensure Ukraine’s security and to maintain NATO’s long-term support.
Minister Georgiev emphasised that ensuring Ukraine’s security remains a fundamental priority for the Alliance. “Our shared goal is a sovereign and independent Ukraine, equipped with the capabilities to deter Russian aggression,” he stated.
In light of the continuing military aggression by the Russian Federation, it was underscored that sustained military, economic, and political support for Ukraine will remain of critical importance until a lasting and sustainable peaceful resolution to the conflict is achieved.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, provided an update on the developments on the battlefield, as well as on Kyiv’s ongoing efforts to achieve peace.
The meeting also included discussions on opportunities to continue and deepen support from EU Member States and Canada, including through taking on greater responsibility in the efforts to rebuild and stabilise Ukraine.
