Minister Georgiev Presents Certificates to Junior Diplomats from the Middle East

18 June 2025 News

“In a time when the world is torn by conflicts, we in Bulgaria are building connections – a foundation for peace.” With these words, Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev welcomed junior diplomats from the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, and the Republic of Iraq, participants in the first study visit for junior diplomats from the Middle East region, organized by the Diplomatic Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs. At a formal ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in the presence of intern attachés from the 19th class “Dr. Georgi Valkovich,” the Bulgarian Foreign Minister presented certificates of participation to the young foreign diplomats.

In his address, Minister Georgiev highlighted that, much like the Middle East, the Balkans and the wider Eastern European region are also complex and historically burdened parts of the world. He commended the Diplomatic Institute for initiating such an exchange, fostering connections that lay the groundwork for future friendship, strengthened diplomatic ties, and expanded cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The visit, organized by the Diplomatic Institute, aimed to deepen established cooperation with diplomatic academies from Bahrain, Qatar, and Iraq. It also served to present the priorities of Bulgaria’s foreign policy, showcase the country’s historical and cultural heritage, and emphasize the importance of interreligious dialogue and social harmony as foundations for stability and unity within Bulgarian society.

As part of the program, the junior diplomats had the opportunity to exchange expertise with Bulgarian diplomatic colleagues and representatives from the academic and non-governmental sectors. They participated in a roundtable on issues concerning the Middle East and the Balkans, and visited the city of Plovdiv, European Capital of Culture in 2019.
