Aircraft Carrying 148 Evacuated Individuals from Israel Lands Safely in Sofia

18 June 2025 News

Early this morning, a flight carrying 148 people – 89 Bulgarian citizens and 59 foreign nationals – successfully evacuated from the territory of the State of Israel via Egypt, arrived at Vasil Levski Airport in Sofia. The rescue operation was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, in cooperation with international partners and institutions.

The flight was organized in response to the deteriorating security situation in the region and was part of Bulgaria’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of its citizens in crisis zones. Among those welcoming the returnees at Vasil Levski Airport in Sofia was Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev, who personally greeted the evacuees.

“This was a highly complex operation that required swift action, diplomatic coordination, and on-the-ground engagement. I am proud of our teams and grateful to all our partners who helped ensure this mission was carried out safely and on time,” said Minister Georgiev.

The evacuation was carried out via a specially chartered flight, with the evacuees transported by land from Israel to Egypt under heightened security measures. Many expressed their gratitude for the care and assistance provided by the Bulgarian institutions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains ready to assist other Bulgarian citizens still in the region and continues to closely monitor the evolving situation.
