Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

13 June 2025 News

The Republic of Bulgaria is following with deep concern the latest developments in the Middle East, in particular the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

The Republic of Bulgaria is alarmed by any actions that increase the risk of a broader conflict in the region.

The recent revelations by the International Atomic Energy Agency — that, for the first time in 20 years, Iran has shown multiple shortcomings concerning undeclared nuclear material and unregulated activities — have introduced a new and dangerous dynamic in the region.

We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions.

Bulgaria firmly upholds the necessity of respecting international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

We believe that a lasting solution can only be achieved through diplomatic dialogue and the restoration of negotiation channels. In this spirit, Bulgaria supports the efforts of the European Union and the international community to restore stability in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains in close contact with Bulgaria’s diplomatic missions in the affected areas and is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Bulgarian citizens.
