"Bulgaria and Hungary share excellent bilateral relations, founded on deep historical and cultural ties. We maintain an active political dialogue with a focus on energy and bilateral military cooperation." This was stated by Minister Georg Georgiev during his meeting with Mr Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary. Bulgaria’s top diplomat is on a working visit to Budapest at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart.
Minister Georgiev and Minister Szijjártó discussed opportunities for further deepening bilateral cooperation in a number of priority areas, including energy, military cooperation, investments, tourism, education, science and culture. "The completion of the Vertical Gas Corridor, which runs through the territories of Bulgaria and Hungary, will enhance EU’s energy security and resilience," the Bulgarian Foreign Minister emphasised.
The signing of a number of bilateral documents, which contribute to the renewal and enhancement of the contractual legal framework between the two countries, was noted with satisfaction. "Our enhanced partnership and bilateral agreements reached will lead to even stronger economic cooperation, particularly in strategic areas such as investments, transport, and innovation," Minister Georgiev added. "Increasing Hungarian investments in Bulgaria is a priority for us. The energy, industrial production, and transport are sectors that hold significant potential for the further deepening of our cooperation," the Bulgarian Foreign Minister noted.
The ministers also exchanged views on key issues on the European and global agenda, including EU enlargement, migration management, cooperation within NATO, the war in Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.
