Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova Attends the Opening of the Exhibition “The World Needs Science, and Science Needs Women”

On 22 May 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova took part in the opening of the exhibition "The World Needs Science, and Science Needs Women!", dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the UNESCO and L'Oréal "For Women in Science" programme in the Republic of Bulgaria. Ms Shekerletova highlighted the continued support porvided each year by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO the programme's activities. She emphasised that the awards granted through the initiative not only support the scientific research of Bulgarian women scientists across various fields, but also give visibility to their achievements and symbolise society's recognition of their contributions. Ms Shekerletova expressed her gratitude to all partners whose support has made the programme possible, and voiced her confidence that it will continue to inspire young Bulgarian women to pursue careers in scientific research.

Among those attending the opening were Ms Iliana Yotova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria; Ms Blagorodna Zdravkova, Deputy Mayor for Culture, Education, Sports and Youth Affairs of Sofia Municipality; Academician Toni Spassov, Vice-Rector of Sofia University; Ms Milena Shipkovenska, Member of the Management Board of L’ORÉAL ADRIA-BALKAN; and Ms Sanja Burg, Director of Corporate Communications at L'Oréal.

Dr Zhenya Yordanova and Dr Radoslava Bekova, recipients of the programme’s awards, shared their experiences with "For Women in Science" programme and spoke about its significance for their scientific work.
