Bilateral Political Consultations Between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Cyprus

On 15 and 16 May 2025, political consultations were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Cyprus at the level of Directors General for European Affairs.
The Bulgarian delegation was headed by Mr Yordan Parvanov, while Cyprus was represented by Ms Harris Christodoulidou, Director General for European Affairs.
The Republic of Cyprus is set to assume the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU during the first half of 2026. This will mark Cyprus’s second Presidency of the Council of the EU, the first having taken place in 2012.
Bulgaria and Cyprus hold similar positions on a number of issues on the European agenda and enjoy well-established cooperation and dialogue, both within the EU framework and in other international forums.
The two delegations discussed current topics on the European agenda, including the next Multiannual Financial Framework, the future of the EU, the regional situation, EU enlargement, the rule of law, migration, and energy cooperation.
The two sides also exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and explored opportunities for its further enhancement.
