Bulgaria at the United Nations: The Voice of Small and Medium-Sized States in Global Politics

In 2025, Bulgaria marks the 70th anniversary of its membership in the United Nations (UN) – a key milestone in the country's establishment on the international stage. On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces a national student essay competition aimed at young people with an interest in the issues of international diplomacy and the engagement of the UN.
The aim of the competition is to encourage active dialogue on current global issues, to highlight Bulgaria's role within the UN and to stimulate students' creative and analytical engagement with topics of international politics.
Participants are invited to submit an essay on the theme “Bulgaria at the UN: The Voice of Small and Medium-Sized States in Global Politics”. The essay may focus on topics such as peace and security, human rights, combating climate change, innovation, and technological .
A jury will select the five best essays, with the overall winner to be determined through an interview. The grand prize is the opportunity to join the Bulgarian delegation to the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York (between September and December 2025) – a unique chance for the student to gain first-hand experience of international diplomacy in action.
The competition is open to students from all Bulgarian universities.
