10 April 2025 News

On 10 April, 2025, Deputy Minister Maria Angelieva represented Bulgaria at the inaugural edition of the OECD Forum on Emerging Markets, held at the OECD Regional Centre in Istanbul.

The Forum provides a platform for interregional dialogue between OECD member countries and partner nations, aiming to bridge political differences and promote joint solutions to global challenges.

The event brought together high-level representatives, including ministers and deputy ministers from OECD member and partner countries, representatives from the EC, UNDP, and non-governmental organisations. The main topics discussed included sustainable infrastructure, connectivity, and the development of efficient and resilient supply chains – key factors for long-term competitiveness and economic growth.

The Forum was opened by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and Turkey’s Minister of Trade, Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat.

During the panel on discussion titled "The Rise of Multimodal Corridors: Expanding Trade and Transport Connectivity", Deputy Minister Angelieva highlighted Bulgaria's active role in the development of regional transport corridors as a driver of economic integration and growth. She emphasized our country's participation in the Baltic-Black Sea-Aegean Sea Corridor and Corridor VIII, as well as the potential of the Bulgarian Black Sea ports of Varna and Burgas within the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor.

In her speech, Deputy Minister Angelieva stressed the need for enhanced international cooperation, coordinated investments, regulatory harmonization, and the removal of trade barriers to fully realise the potential of regional transport corridors.
