Within the framework of his participation in the Baku Global Forum, Georg Georgiev also met today with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov. The meeting took place less than a month after the two spoke in Munich, during the Security Conference – another testament to the active political dialogue between the two countries, which allows for the discussion of current bilateral issues, as well as an exchange of views on regional and global topics.
During their meeting in Baku, the two ministers confirmed their principled shared readiness to hold the Third Session of the Strategic Dialogue between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan, if possible, in the second half of this year, as well as to hold organizing the next round of consultations beforehand between the foreign ministries of the two countries, as a valuable tool to support and develop bilateral political dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in various areas of mutual interest.
The two ministers agreed that energy dialogue is central to our very active political exchange. Minister Georgiev stressed that Azerbaijan is a key partner of Bulgaria in the field of energy and makes a significant contribution as a source for diversifying natural gas supplies for the Bulgarian economy and more broadly for Europe. In this sense, cooperation in the energy sector is crucial not only in the context of our bilateral relations but also in the context of our region's and Europe's efforts to improve energy security by achieving energy diversification. Within the framework of the conversation, mutual interest in the implementation of projects in priority areas of cooperation such as energy and connectivity between Europe and Asia in its various dimensions was confirmed.
Minister Georgiev and Minister Bayramov also discussed other issues related to the international security environment and the process of regulating relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Our top diplomat welcomed the announced yesterday completion of negotiations on a peace agreement with Armenia and expressed hope that it will be signed in a short time, which will lay a solid foundation for peace and sustainable security in the region.
Georg Georgiev congratulated his colleague for the diplomatic efforts and for the excellent organization of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29), at which our country stated its intention to continue to participate in the implementation of policies and practices aimed at combating climate change and decarbonizing our economies.
