Minister Georg Georgiev: The United Arab Emirates is a very important partner of Bulgaria in the Middle East region

20 February 2025 News

The United Arab Emirates is a very important partner of Bulgaria in the Middle East region and we attach great importance to our strategic relations. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, in his telephone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The conversation established a good working contact between the two ministers in the spirit of the desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation and interaction on the international stage between the two friendly countries.

An exchange was carried out on a number of key international and regional issues of mutual interest, as well as on opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the process of building relations between the EU and the UAE.

Particular satisfaction was also expressed by both ministers in connection with the upward trends in the development of economic ties between the two countries. The holding in 2025 of the first session of the Bulgarian-Emirati Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which will give an additional impetus to economic, investment and high-tech bilateral cooperation, was outlined.

During the conversation, Minister Georgiev noted that the UAE is home to the largest Bulgarian community in the Middle East – more than 3,000 people. The number of Bulgarian tourists in the Gulf state is also constantly growing, with more than 32,000 in 2024.

Invitations for visits between the two ministers were exchanged – to Bulgaria and respectively to the UAE.
