Georg Georgiev: Building good neighbourliness requires trust, open dialogue and fulfilment of commitments made

"Good neighbourly relations are a horizontal criterion in the process of European integration and without them, EU membership is not possible. Building good neighbourliness requires trust, open dialogue, predictability and fulfilment of commitments made." This was stated by the Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Georg Georgiev, at a meeting with his counterpart from the Republic of North Macedonia, Timcho Mutsunski, which took place within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.
Our top diplomat stressed that Bulgaria's position on the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia is clear and consistent. The 2022 European compromise includes a set of measures and their full implementation is the only way forward. The inclusion of Bulgarians, on par with other peoples, in the constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia is only the first step, the implementation of which will allow Skopje to start membership negotiations. Georgiev was adamant that renegotiation or circumvention of the agreements reached, behind which the entire EU stands, is not possible.
