04 December 2024 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov participated in a NATO Foreign Ministers' Meeting held on 3 and 4 December in Brussels. The meeting was the first in a similar format under the leadership of the new Secretary General of the Alliance Mark Rutte.

During the first working session, with the participation of King Abdullah II of Jordan, the focus was on common security challenges. NATO's commitment to the South and the Alliance's interaction with the partners from the southern strategic axis were highlighted, with a view to implementing specific objectives of interest to NATO and in support of the partners from the region.

Minister Ivan Kondov took part in an informal working dinner of the NATO-Ukraine Council with the participation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. The dinner discussed additional support from allies to meet Ukraine's immediate needs.

On the second day of the NATO Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Minister Ivan Kondov took part in a meeting in an allied format. The focus was on strategic issues on the Alliance's agenda, including strengthening the Alliance's deterrence and defence capabilities, strengthening support for Ukraine in response to ongoing Russian aggression, third-country support for the Russian Federation, and preparations for the NATO Summit in The Hague in 2025.
