At a ceremony in the Sea Garden in the city of Burgas today the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nevyana Miteva and the mayor of the city Dimitar Nikolov unveiled the third of the five art graffiti awarded in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs competition for street art ‘Bulgaria — More Beautiful in NATO’. The mural, which was realized in this wonderful location with the support of Burgas Municipality, is the work of the talented graffiti artist Daniel Dubarov. The ceremony was also attended by the Regional Governor of Burgas prof. Maria Neykova, Ambassador of Hungary to Bulgaria H. E. Miklós Boros, the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Burgas Tolga Orkun and the Commander of the Naval Base Atia — Fleet Admiral Velko Velkov.

The celebration was attended by many young people - students and representatives of youth organizations, academics, servicemen from the Atia Naval Base, residents and guests of the town.

In her address to the guests at the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nevyana Miteva pointed out that the last 20 years since Bulgaria joined NATO — a family of democratic societies and countries that support each other in every moment of need — were years of stability, security, prosperity and development. ‘Bulgaria has undoubtedly increased its prestige in the international and political aspect after its accession to NATO 20 years ago, which led to Bulgaria’s accession to the EU’, Deputy Minister Miteva said.

She expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivan Kondov and on her own behalf to the mayor of the city and to the team of the Municipality of Burgas for the readiness with which they responded to the invitation for partnership in the realization of the mural competition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ‘The mural is a visual narrative of how Bulgaria, as part of NATO, contributes to global security, to preserving peace and to addressing the challenges of our time. We strive to attract the attention of young people to little-known topics and aspects of NATO’s work and to enrich their knowledge about the benefits for Bulgaria of membership in the Alliance’, Miteva further emphasized in her speech.

In his address the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov wished Burgas to continue to be a city in a peaceful and secure country, which is part of a great power that is the most powerful in the whole world, and the Regional Governor Prof. Maria Neykova thanked for the wonderful idea to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria's membership in NATO with such an event, creating beauty through the eyes of artists. ‘Art and NATO — an interesting symbiosis that provokes the human imagination. Usually, after the intervention of the military there are always ugly traces, but the theme ‘Bulgaria — More Beautiful in NATO’ is a way to show through the eyes of the artist that it does not have to be so’, pointed out in her speech prof. Neykova.
