Mariya Gabriel: Bavaria-Bulgaria High-Level Summit to be held in Munich in April

07 January 2024 News

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel was on a working visit to Bavaria, where she was a key speaker at the annual strategy meeting of the Christian Social Union (CSU) party. Her participation was at the invitation of Alexander Dobrindt, deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag.

During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister held a number of bilateral meetings, including with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and MEP and the head of the CSU delegation in the European Parliament Angelika Niebler.

An important outcome of Mariya Gabriel’s meeting with the Bavarian Minister-President and CSU leader Markus Söder was the announcement of the Bavaria-Bulgaria summit, which will take place in Munich in April this year.

‘Bulgaria and Bavaria share common goals in innovation, industry and security. Key sectors are artificial intelligence, robotics, automotive. Together we can achieve more by promoting cooperation between higher education and industry’, the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Bavaria is Bulgaria’s largest foreign trade partner out of all 16 states of the Federal Republic of Germany. Bulgaria and Bavaria have traditionally been good partners in terms of foreign direct investment.

‘With the Bavaria-Bulgaria summit we aim to take our close bilateral cooperation to a higher level. Unity, specific action and benefit for citizens — this is our message’, Mariya Gabriel stated.
