Bulgarian cultural institutes are a valuable resource for Bulgaria's foreign policy
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel and Minister of Culture Krastyu Krastev signed a strategic agreement to improve the activities of the Bulgarian Cultural Institutes (BCIs) abroad. The aim is better coordination with the priorities of Bulgarian foreign policy.
‘With the agreement we confirm the role of Bulgarian cultural institutes abroad as an integral part of the institutions through which Bulgarian foreign policy is implemented. This is an important message about the key role of cultural diplomacy in foreign policy’, Mariya Gabriel said.
The agreement concluded between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture provides for the preparation and reporting of programmes on an annual basis for the activities of Bulgarian cultural institutes abroad. These activities are in line with Bulgaria's foreign policy priorities.
It will take action to update the bilateral international agreements on the basis of which the Bulgarian Cultural Institutes were established. A separate part of the cultural calendar is to be created with national events and celebrations of events related to foreign policy priorities in the field of culture.
