Deputy Minister Irena Dimitrova held a meeting with Ms. Ellen Jermaine, Special Representative of the U.S. Department of State for Holocaust Issues

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Coordinator for Combating Anti-Semitism, Ms. Irena Dimitrova, held a meeting with Ms. Ellen Germain, Special Representative of the US Department of State for Holocaust Issues and Head of the US Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

During the talks, measures to counter the growing global manifestations of anti-Semitism were discussed, including the importance of studying and commemorating the history of the Holocaust. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War, Ms. Ellen Germain distinguished this moment in the history of Bulgaria and the Holocaust as a unique act of humanism, tolerance and courage.

Deputy Minister Dimitrova highlighted the firm commitment of the Bulgarian government to counteract any anti-Semitic manifestations and informed that the first National Action Plan to combat anti-Semitism is about to be adopted.

International cooperation in the fight against anti-Semitism was also discussed, highlighting the key role of the IHRA and the participation of our country in the activities of the organization.
